My career

I have been at Bear Stearns for 11 years and my responsibilities have evolved during this time to where I am now a Senior Analyst and Vice President with a leading global investment banking, securities trading and brokerage firm. In my position I create and test crucial accounting software applications. The scope of my work includes client rate negotiation data, profit and loss statements, internal budget analysis data and numerous special projects as required.

While I have further career goals, my current position is a point of pride. As the youngest of five children in a low-income minority family, my education and career achievements are notable. I was determined to be the first of my siblings to receive an undergraduate degree and now I have added to that with a graduate degree earned with distinction.

At Keller, the capstone course where we created a business plan has inspired me and given me confidence to dream and attempt to bring those dreams to reality. My partner and I are currently taking the steps to bring the business idea presented in the capstone course to life. My hope is that this will be a stepping stone to a lucrative career and a business venture. It has given me new vision to explore entrepreneurial opportunities and establish my own company.

Completing and receiving my master's degree has been very beneficial to my career as it helped me rise to my current position as Vice President within my department. I believe that the knowledge that I acquired and the implementation of many of the tools that I learned in finance has assisted me in being able to demonstrate to my colleagues and managers the value that I bring to the company

I now have a brighter future for myself and family. The Keller degree program has been a key to improving my performance and capacity in my field. It has inspired certainty and belief in myself that I have many other career options available. Keller has been a learning experience not just academically but in many ways.

Beyond the classroom

Keller not only provided me with knowledge, but with enduring relationships with faculty and fellow students. One of my classmates and I are now developing a business venture together. Perhaps my biggest asset developed as a Keller student is that I am now well equipped to reach whatever goals I have in life.

Keller Graduate School has given me discipline, perseverance, and confidence that I will achieve whatever I undertake. I have the confidence to demonstrate to my colleagues what I offer to the organization. The courses that emphasized team participation and presentation developed my leadership qualities. For example, my finance classes involving group projects let me assume a leadership role that was acknowledged by my peers, noted by my professor and represented by my grades. Keller has truly been a meaningful experience that has impacted my life in many ways.

I needed a degree-granting institution that was a well recognized school with the flexibility that allowed me to fit it into my busy schedule. My career and personal life is a delicate balance.
