Should I get a master's in financial management or accounting?

Choosing which degree to pursue depends on your interests and career goals. At DeVry, for example, our Master’s in Accounting and Financial Management program allows you to choose an emphasis in General Accounting, CMA Exam Preparation, Finance or CPA Exam Preparation. Core courses include Financial Accounting, Corporate Finance and Managerial Accounting.

On the other hand, our Master’s in Accounting program is designed specifically for individuals with an undergraduate specialization in accounting or finance. This program can benefit students preparing for the CPA exam as well as licensed CPAs furthering their education in order to pursue additional career goals, such as teaching. Coursework covers topics such as Current Issues in Accounting, and Professional Research for Accountants. Students seeking to take our CPA exam may also enroll in the CPA Exam Preparation courses.

What can I do with a Master's in Accounting and Financial Management?

If you are interested in pursuing professional licensure such as a CPA, this program can help you prepare as well as work toward pursuing employment in one of the following positions:

Requirements for CPA licensure vary by state. All students enrolled in site-based programs will be required to take some coursework online and, for some programs and locations, a substantial portion of the program may be required to be completed online.

Students completing degree requirements at a Texas location must fulfill a minimum residency requirement of 36 semester-credit hours at Keller.

Students requiring additional development of mathematics and/or writing skills take prerequisite skills coursework, MATH500 and/or ENGL510, respectively. Required prerequisite skills coursework may affect program length and cost.
