Master of Accounting and Financial Management (MAFM) Courses
Keller's MAFM* degree program requires successful completion of 15 MAFM courses, including six accounting foundations courses, a series of specific coursework for your chosen emphasis, one or more electives to match your needs and interests, and a culminating capstone course that allows you to put your new skills and knowledge into practice.
MAFM Core Courses Provide Strong Foundation
The six required core MAFM courses are as follows:
- Managerial Accounting (AC505)
- Intermediate Accounting I (AC550)
- Intermediate Accounting II (AC551)
- Federal Taxes and Management Decisions (AC553)
- Intermediate Accounting III (AC557)
- Accounting and Finance: Managerial Use and Analysis (FI504)
If you hold an undergraduate accounting degree, you may be eligible to waive one or more of the core MAFM courses; however, each MAFM course waived must be replaced with an elective course. MAFM students qualify for up to six course waivers. (Also see Course Waivers in the Keller academic catalog.)
MAFM Emphases Align with Your Career Goals
To tailor the MAFM degree program to your professional interests and goals, you will need to select one of the following emphases:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Emphasis, which includes courses that integrate the Becker CPA Review methodology
- Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Emphasis, which includes courses that integrate the Stalla Review for the CFA Exam
- Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) Emphasis
CPA Emphasis Courses
The required coursework for the CPA emphasis includes the following:
- External Auditing (AC555)
- Advanced Financial Accounting and Reporting Issues (AC559) or Business Law: Strategic Considerations for Managers and Owners (GM597)
- Managerial Finance (FI515)
- Advanced Managerial Finance (FI516)
CPA Exam preparation courses
- Auditing and Attestation (AC591)
- Business Environment and Concepts (AC592)
- Financial Accounting and Reporting (AC593)
- Regulation (AC594)
Students who are licensed CPAs or who have passed parts of the CPA exam are exempt, as appropriate, from AC591, AC592, AC593 and AC594 (see Course Exemptions within the Keller academic catalog). CPA exam-preparation courses vary in length; the length for all other courses is eight weeks per course.
MAFM elective course
Choose one from the courses in the Keller academic catalog for which you meet the prerequisite(s).
MAFM capstone course
- Financial Management Capstone: The Role of the Chief Financial Officer (AC600)
Drawing upon multi-disciplinary knowledge gained throughout your Keller program, real-world capstone projects provide the unique opportunity for you to demonstrate relevant business judgment and analytical models in the context of current and emerging opportunities. As a required part of your Keller program, the capstone course provides a unique opportunity to hone your professional skills while you complete your graduate degree.
CFA Emphasis Courses
The required coursework for the CFA emphasis includes the following:
- Managerial Finance (FI515)
- Advanced Managerial Finance (FI516)
- Securities Analysis (FI560)
- Mergers and Acquisitions (FI561)
CFA Exam preparation courses
Students who hold CFA certification or who have passed parts of the CFA exam are exempt from FI595 and FI596 (see Course Exemptions within the Keller academic catalog). CFA exam-preparation courses vary in length; the length for all other courses is eight weeks per course.
MAFM elective course
Choose one from the courses in the Keller academic catalog for which you meet the prerequisite(s), including a CFA Level III Exam Preparation course.
MAFM capstone course

- Forensic Accounting: Ethics and the Legal Environment (AC574)

Choose four courses from the following electives:

- Global and Domestic Security Management (GM594)
- Business Law: Strategic Considerations for Managers and Owners (GM597)
- Principles of Information Security and Privacy (SE571)

- Security Risk Analysis and Planning (SE582)
- Security Administration and Operation (SE583)
